The Vesuvio Ultra Marathon, founded in 2017, has rapidly become one of the most sought-after trail running events in Italy and beyond. A steady, organic growth year after year has transformed an ambitious sporting vision into a benchmark event in the off-road running calendar.
The race takes place in the heart of the Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio, crossing technical trails, fossilized lava flows, broom-covered slopes and panoramic ridgelines overlooking Napoli, Pompei, Capri and the Penisola Sorrentina. A truly unique setting where nature, history and geology merge seamlessly with athletic performance.
The event offers four race distances designed for different levels of preparation, with the flagship race — the Vesuvio Ultra — covering 65 kilometers and 4,100 meters of positive elevation gain. A demanding and spectacular challenge that embraces both Mount Somma and Mount Vesuvius in one of Europe’s most fascinating loop courses.

The 2025 edition marked a decisive milestone. All distances sold out, athletes representing 27 nations, extensive national and international media coverage, and a widespread narrative that strengthened the positioning of the Vesuvian territory as a premier outdoor sports destination.
